DIAMONDS

Diamond tools have been used in construction for many years. However it is only in recent years that the versatility that diamond tools offer have been used to their full extent. A saying we have in ECR International is that the limit is our imagination, not our tools. The diamonds used were originally all natural diamonds. Now they are almost all synthetic. This is generally because quality, size and shape are controlled so therefore there is more consistency in performance of an individual tool.

Diamond tools are used for three main functions; wire, saw blades and drill bits.

WIRESAWS

There are two elements to a wire saw. The first element is the machine that drives the second, diamond wire. Diamond wire consists of a 6mm. diameter steel core, to which beads are threaded over. These beads are held in position by either springs, injection moulding or both. The beads have small chips of diamond spread throughout. The beads when new are 11mm in diameter and wear down to about 9mm. in diameter.

The wire is threaded around or through the concrete that needs to be cut. There are many different possible setups; suffice to say that a wire saw is very versatile, and there are very few jobs and/or material that it will not handle.

Wire saws are quiet. Therefore they are ideal in noise critical areas such as hotels, hospitals and occupied buildings.

There are too many variables of wire sawing to describe in a brief description here. If you have a problem with concrete removal call us.

BLADE SAWS

These are more common than wire saws. Within this category of concrete cutting machines are three sub-sets.
  • Floor saw. Most common of concrete cutting machines. Range in power from 8hp to 80hp. Will cut concrete up to 600mm. thick. Floor saws are mostly petrol or diesel powered. In confined spaces ECR International uses 3-phase machines.

  • Wall saw. Can cut up to 800mm. deep (from one side). However, generally if we have to cut a wall greater than 500mm. thick we prefer to use a wire saw. The decision on which machine to use depends on the individual project that is being undertaken.

  • Hand saw. Are very versatile. However they are limited to cutting to only 250mm. They are either petrol powered or hydraulic.

DRILLS

In most commercial and industrial buildings there are a large number of holes that allow services to go from floor to floor or room to room on the same floor. There are a large number of sizes and depths. ECR International conventionally drills holes up to 750mm. in diameter. Depending on diameter, the company can drill to a depth of ?. Our limit has not been reached yet. On seismic upgrade work we drill to 15-20 metres deep and 76mm. diameter. For holes over 750mm. diameter, we use an attachment to our wire saw that will "drill" a hole to almost any diameter.

There are a number of options for removing concrete. Phone ECR International for an engineered solution to your concrete problem.
